Two ways or maybe more?

          Cambridge project genre ideas

When we were given the task to create an opening immediately thought of my favorite movie, Avatar. Although im not good CGI or animation, I liked the concept of a dramatic movie. That’s when I started brainstorming. What are some good movies/shows? As a teenager I love a classic coming to age/ comedy I think it’s something about an another teenager that just makes it relatable.  Although I’m very much into action-adventure/ fantasy like Avatar or Harry Potter, two amazing films. So I began looking into both genres and movies, as I’ve noticed a project is nothing without a good conducted research.

 

For my film in particular I was hoping to make a story of a teenager and her bestfriend. However how I developed it is not set in stone. I can take a comedic approach or an action-adventure approach.  Based off movies I’ve watched the way each genre is developed is different but they all have their similarities as well.

By looking into coming to age movies like my all time favorite, mean girls, I was able to analyze and study how the genre was developed. A coming to age genre focuses heavily on the protagonist’s changes both emotional and physical. 

The theme that mean girls had a comedic twist as the story transitioned into the struggles and issues a teenagers goes through. This showed me that a coming to age film need a a good establishing shot to showcase the character persona and helped develop their age group. I really want to learn more about this film as it’s one my favorites and its themes are something I’ve have had my eyes on to creating. 

 

This isn’t the only approach I can take. Back to the same teenager/pre teen films, Harry Potter and the sorceress stone action-adventure/ fantasy genre is another way I can develop my opening toward to. The harry poorer franchise is so big that it dates all the way back to 2002 to 2011. The way the story is set is in a magical world of magic. The use of magic is important to the plot and characters abilities. The story revolves over a 11 year old boy who has just discovered that they are a wizard and has been accepted into Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardy. 

As a child I envied Harry and have always hope to be discovered as he was or even developed into my own set of magical powers, sadly the harsh truth of reality set and I grew without powers. But I can incorporate that idea into my own film opening and make my childhood dream a reality or in this case a fantasy. The film follows a quest that he and his friends must do and because of the magic that comes to these magical adventures this movie is an adventure/ fantasy.

I want my opening to either be realistic and relatable or something that eye catching and magical. Using these two films I have been able to come and explore ideas that can help develop my own story.
