How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Hey there! Welcome back, it feels like forever ago since I've last uploaded. It's only been a day. Anyway today is another day tackling down other questions about my opening. Addressing these questions are crucial since it helps me acknowledge everything I've done for my film. Today's question revolves about just that actually.
Before I dive what skills, I want to address what I've struggled throughout all my past projects. First up, time management. I cannot emphasize how bad my time management was before I got to do this project, and how I struggled incredibly starting assignments before their due. I'm a huge procrastinator, and I knew it. With a long project like this one, I cannot spare any time. I have to be on top of it all, or else I would drown and sink. In so, in my past posts I described how incorporating a schedule for the production of opening can help me stay in track. Without even noticing it, I got to stay stress-free, organized, and even spare extra time for further analysis if necessary.
There’s no I in team
I've always been the type to take control over the whole project because I don't like seeing things going MY way. But I cannot even express how happy I am to have worked with my partner, Victoria, she helped me with capturing our film concept. You see, at first, we have a whole jumble of different ideas, and we couldn’t find anything that we liked, it was all kind of scattered. In turn, we learned that from starting all the way from the beginning. Reciting our favorite movies, combing concepts, really helped us focus. I’ve gained so much experience with collaborating with others, especially with Victoria, when we started talking about our ideas for dystopian film it sorted just clicked. I learned to listen and be patient with others and to not undermined their ideas. I feel that by collaborating our ideas and using teamwork we were able to give our best. You know what they say, “Teamwork makes the dreamwork!”.
Acting
I didn’t notice at first, but the importance of a script is insane. I personally hated doing extra work, but not using a script could’ve really messed us up. My partner PRESSURED me into helping her write one, I hesitated but I decided to give in and listen to her. Oh my gosh. Without the script I wouldn't have a good idea of what to say, every shot would be hard and retaken constantly. Not just that, but implementing a storyboard, helped me lay out my ideas. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I see my storyboard and scripting skills improving exponentially! (maybe even art skills...)
Editing
I was not prepared for the editing portion of the project though. This part was i struggled the most. As someone who has no experience of editing expect this year it was hard. Luckily, with time and patience I was able to improve. I had to research A LOT of different YouTube tutorial to find techniques to improve my editing, such as incorporating a green scene shot. Not just that, I never realized the importance of timing each shot to create a seamless transition. Once cutting a shot and adding the next one, the cut needs to be CLEAN, if you want that seamless transition.
Ultimately,I feel that my patience, teamwork, organization, prepping and editing skills have improved quite a lot throughout the course of this project and I know it will just keep on improving!
